WORKING UNDER THE TREES.

Project description.

This small studio was created with the idea that its structure would recreate a natural scene “under the trees”, whereby a part of its roof is completely transparent and the rest is a sandwich of layers of fiberglass, glass and insulation.

The layout as such is simple, much like that of a train carriage.

Location

Madrid Spain,

Project Type

Design studio.

Year of construction.

2007-2009.

As can be seen in the section, a part of the structure is buried, this is to allow a horizontal view of the plot, everything buried is concrete formwork.

The work areas are protected from direct sunlight by double sheets of fiberglass and polyester, in the middle of which is a translucent insulator.

The two ends of the elongated tubular structure are made of white opaline methacrylate on a steel frame and can be fully opened to allow air circulation through a system of pulleys and counterweights. As the building is semi buried in the site, it provides excellent insulation while giving architects with eye level views of the natural landscape as they work.

Inside, the small volume houses a row of tables perpendicular to the wall along with a bookcase, a longitudinal corridor and another shelf that follows the route of the other wall. In total, the space was divided so that eight people could carry out their activities.
